PHILADELPHIA— Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson today met with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter to underscore the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) important collaboration with the city’s leadership and local law enforcement on a range of homeland security-related priorities and issues.
Secretary Johnson and Mayor Nutter also discussed operational security and contingency planning ahead of Pope Francis’ visit in September 2015. Secretary Johnson has designated this upcoming event as a National Special Security Event (NSSE) which allows for enhanced cooperation of local, state and federal partners in establishing a safe and secure environment for the Pope’s visit. The Secretary and Mayor also discussed the selection of Philadelphia to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention and the security efforts associated with that event.
