Serving from February 2021 through July 2023, as Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs, Marsha Espinosa oversees the Department of Homeland Security’s public outreach, media, strategic and incident communications efforts and serves as the principal advisor to Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on all internal and external communications.

She re-joins the DHS where she previously served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary and Press Secretary from 2012-2016.

Ms. Espinosa brings extensive experience to DHS, having served as Chief of Staff to two Members of Congress and expert public and government affairs advisor to multiple industries and campaigns in management, media relations, and crisis communications.

She is a graduate of New Mexico State University and received a Masters of Arts in Communication Studies from Texas State University. Espinosa is a proud military spouse, whose husband serves as a Master Gunnery Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.
