Secretary Johnson to Announce Expansion of Preclearance Operations

WASHINGTON—On Nov. 4, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh C. Johnson will announce plans to expand air preclearance operations to additional foreign airports at a media event at Newark Liberty International Airport. Through preclearance, each traveler undergoes immigration, customs, and agriculture inspection by U.S. Customs and Border Protection before boarding a direct flight to the United States.  Joining the Secretary will be Todd Owen, Executive Assistant Commissioner, U.S. Customs and Border Protection; Paul Fujimura, Assistant Administrator, Transportation Security Administration; and Tom Engle, Deputy Assistant Secretary, Department of State.

On the day of the event, media should arrive by 12:15 PM EDT and enter using door 6 on the arrivals level of Newark Liberty International Airport Terminal C.
