Serve the Public

In response to President Biden’s Executive Order, Transforming Federal Customer Experience and Service Delivery to Rebuild Trust in Government, which directs Government leaders to account for the experiences of the public in seeking Government services, the Department of Homeland Security and other federal agencies are hiring mission-driven technologists to improve a multitude of services that are applicable to every stage of people’s lives.

Every person in this country accesses benefits from services and systems DHS manages. The Department has well over one billion interactions with the public every year, including with some of our country’s most vulnerable populations (asylum seekers, refugees, disaster survivors) who cannot afford to deal with slow, outdated processes and systems when they try to access services.

If you join DHS, you’ll work to ensure that DHS policy, technology, and design decisions prioritize equitable access to key services. Your commitment to human-centered, people-first design in digital services will positively impact people’s lives, and will help us create a Department with efficient, secure services and technologies that everyone can access.

None of this is possible without passionate, diverse, and driven talent from every community in America.

      Meet the Mission

If you join the DHS team, you’ll have the chance to bring people-first, human-centered solutions to massive challenges facing our nation:

      • Modernizing ports of entry
      • Building a humane immigration system
      • Helping disaster survivors recover
      • Tackling the climate crisis
      • Combating human trafficking, labor exploitation, and child exploitation
      • Improving the travel experience
      • Enabling international supply chain

If you qualify, other agencies may approach you about their own human-centered challenges and opportunities.

        Drive Lasting Change

We need your skills and experience to help tackle complex problems:

        • Including CX in strategic planning activities
        • Improving digital capabilities
        • Making IT investments using human-centered design
        • Deploying online form filing and reducing form burden
        • Modernizing systems
        • Streamlining processes and eliminating backlogs

In these roles, you’ll help us:

        • Increase the focus on our customers (or end-users) as we design, build, and refine government services
        • Create solutions at scale with modern best practices in mind
        • Improve the way government serves millions of people from every corner of the United States and beyond
