  • Notice of Intent to Prepare a Programmatic Environmental Assessment of the Nationwide Operation of Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems

    The Department of Homeland Security’s proposes to conduct current and future small, unmanned aircraft system (sUAS; i.e., drone) activities nationwide in order to meet DHS mission requirements (Proposed Action). DHS is preparing a Programmatic Environmental Assessment to evaluate the potential impacts associated with the Proposed Action pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA; 42 United States Code §§ 4321 et seq.); the White House Council on Environmental Quality Regulations Implementing the Procedural Provisions of NEPA (40 Code of Federal Regulations Parts 1500-1508); and DHS Management Directive 023-01, rev. 01 Implementation of the NEPA.

  • SVIP Demo Week 2022

    Join S&T’s Silicon Valley Innovation Program (SVIP) May 3-4, 2022, daily from 12 - 3:30 p.m. ET for the SVIP Demo Week: Machine Learning, a virtual showcase of 11 SVIP-funded startups and their projects supporting DHS components.

    Both days will kick-off with a keynote speaker and feature startup technology demonstrations focused on data analytics, object recognition, and language translation. The event will also include an expert panel discussion on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (AI) and breakout discussions hosted by an SVIP Director.

  • IPA Positions Available at the Science and Technology Directorate

    The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) comprises approximately 1,200 Federal and contractor employees that make up a robust, highly technical staff. S&T’s is the primary provider of research and development work within DHS and plays a unique role supporting innovation, solution development, and technology transfer to developers and ultimately to users. S&T provides the infrastructure, expertise, and resources to make sound R&D investment decisions, support R&D program strategies, and manage and implement tools and sponsors critical research and development activities, including the commercialization of technology for the Homeland Security Enterprise. This enables the diversification of investments across a broader range of operational needs, increasing technology transition, and leveraging other agency investments to avoid duplication in R&D investments.
