    The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) comprises approximately 1,200 Federal and contractor employees that make up a robust, highly technical staff. S&T’s is the primary provider of research and development work within DHS and plays a unique role supporting innovation, solution development, and technology transfer to developers and ultimately to users. S&T provides the infrastructure, expertise, and resources to make sound R&D investment decisions, support R&D program strategies, and manage and implement tools and sponsors critical research and development activities, including the commercialization of technology for the Homeland Security Enterprise. This enables the diversification of investments across a broader range of operational needs, increasing technology transition, and leveraging other agency investments to avoid duplication in R&D investments.

  • Building Local Prevention Frameworks

    The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3) seeks to prevent acts of targeted violence and terrorism by working with the whole of society to establish and expand local prevention frameworks. Through technical, financial, and educational assistance, CP3 supports local efforts that prevent individuals from radicalizing to violence and intervene with individuals who may be radicalizing, or have radicalized, to violence.

  • Notice of Intent to Prepare an Environmental Assessment for Closure Activities at the Plum Island Animal Disease Center on Plum Island, NY

    DHS intends to prepare an Environmental Assessment and requests receipt of public scoping comments. DHS currently operates a facility known as the Plum Island Animal Disease Center (PIADC) on Plum Island, New York. The PIADC mission is to protect U.S. livestock from accidental or intentional introduction of foreign animal diseases that seriously threaten United States livestock industries, food security and economy. DHS proposes to cease operations and close the PIADC facility. Plum Island is an 840-acre island located approximately 1.5 miles off Orient Point and Long Island, New York. DHS also owns and operates transportation assets and a 9.5-acre facility to support PIADC at Orient Point, New York, which includes buildings, utilities, and ferry docking facilities.
