  • DHS Statement on District Court Ruling on Title 42

    As we have repeatedly stated, Title 42 is not an immigration authority, but a public health authority employed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to protect against the spread of communicable disease, in this case, COVID-19. We will comply with the court’s order to continue enforcing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Title 42 Order as long as it remains in place. Meanwhile, DHS will continue to execute its comprehensive, whole-of-government plan to manage potential increases in the number of migrants encountered at our border. As part of this effort, DHS has established a Southwest Border Coordination Center to execute those plans. DHS will also increase personnel and resources as needed, and has already redeployed more than 600 additional law enforcement officers to the border.

  • DHS and DOL Announce Availability of Additional H-2B Visas for Second Half of Fiscal Year

    The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Department of Labor (DOL) announced the availability of an additional 35,000 H-2B temporary nonagricultural worker visas during the second half of fiscal year (FY) 2022. These visas are for U.S. employers seeking to employ additional workers on or after April 1, 2022, through Sept. 30, 2022.

  • DHS CWMD Securing the Cities Convenes a First-of-Kind Meeting for Senior State and Local Leaders

    Last month, the DHS Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office (CWMD) hosted a first-of-its-kind meeting of senior state and local officials to share best practices for protecting their citizens from radiological and nuclear (R/N) threats.  These officials represented the 14 local jurisdictions that participate in CWMD’s Securing the Cities (STC) program.  Senior officials from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration also joined the half-day virtual meeting.

  • DHS Announces $1.6 Billion in Preparedness Grants

    Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas announced $1.6 billion for eight Fiscal Year 2022 preparedness grant programs. Together, these programs provide critical funding to help state and local officials prepare for, prevent, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism and other hazards. This funding is in addition to the $405.1 million announced last month for the Emergency Management Performance Grant Program.
