U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Administrator Craig Fugate met this afternoon to discuss DHS preparedness efforts and the seasonal forecast for the 2009 hurricane season, which begins Monday. Tomorrow, Secretary Napolitano and Administrator Fugate will brief President Obama on these efforts, including prepositioned assets, evacuation planning, and emergency communications. Earlier this month, Secretary Napolitano and Administrator Fugate spoke with governors and emergency management leaders from hurricane-prone states about the importance of state and local collaboration on emergency preparedness and response efforts across the country.
