I have continually stated that filling vacancies across the Department is a key priority of mine, and today I thank the Senate for confirming Joseph Nimmich as Deputy Administrator at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Under his leadership, Joe will continue to ensure that FEMA effectively leverages its full resources to help communities prepare for, respond to and recover from major disasters.

Good leadership starts with adding other good leaders to our team. I am very pleased that, since and including my own in December, there have been nine Senate-confirmed presidential appointments to senior-level positions within the Department of Homeland Security. I am encouraged by the swift action that the Senate has taken thus far to confirm the Department’s nominees. I urge them to confirm the few remaining vacancies across the Department and thank them for their continued commitment to maintaining strong leadership at DHS.
