Statement from Secretary Mayorkas on the Passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein

Release Date: September 29, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas released the following statement on the passing of Senator Dianne Feinstein:

“I had the privilege of knowing and working closely with Senator Dianne Feinstein for the past nearly 30 years.  Our close professional relationship, which led to our years-long friendship, began when the Senator recommended me to President Clinton for appointment as the United States Attorney for the Central District of California.

“Senator Feinstein was a fearless and extraordinary trailblazer throughout a lifelong career devoted to public service. She ardently championed causes that have immeasurably changed lives and defined the character of our country.  She stood strong for justice for all, and she was a role model, for me and for so many, throughout our home state of California and across the country.

“I extend my deepest condolences to Senator Feinstein’s daughter Katherine, to the many veterans of her team, and to all whom she inspired.  May her memory be a blessing.”
