Ensuring a Resilient Nation through Unity of Effort at Strategic Industry Conversation IV

Release Date: November 2, 2018

Yesterday, I was pleased to join my DHS colleagues and over 500 members of our industry community for our fourth Strategic Industry Conversation. Like our three prior iterations, the most recent event was an incredible success!

We continued our theme of Unity of Effort at DHS, focusing on how our diverse Components, Directorates, and Offices work together to enable our Department’s critical mission. During the day, our industry community heard from senior DHS officials about topics of common interest including mission area challenges, capability gaps, legislative activity, category management, security operations, and cross-sector collaboration. During our activities, we in the Department were reminded that the “we” in the DHS mission statement includes our industry community, which plays a key role in mission delivery.

I want to thank Acting Deputy Secretary Claire M. Grady for her keynote remarks, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Brock Long for his reflections on our unprecedented disaster season, our friends Lesley Field and Mathew Blum from the Office of Management and Budget for joining our DHS panelists, and, of course, the dozens of DHS leaders who took the time to share their expertise as panelists. I also want to thank our industry community for participating in lively question and answer sessions that facilitated two‑way learning. By working together under our Acquisition Innovations in Motion (AIiM) framework for industry collaboration, I sincerely hope that DHS remains a business partner of choice.
