I am pleased to announce, for the seventh year in a row, the Department of Homeland Security has earned an “A” grade on the Small Business Administration’s Annual Small Business Procurement Scorecard [Link no longer valid, https://www.sba.gov/sites/default/files/files/FY15_DHS_SB_Procurement_Scorecard_Public_View_FINAL.pdf].

The Scorecard measures how well Federal agencies have done in meeting their small business contracting goals. Of the seven Federal agencies that spend the most in contracting dollars, DHS is the only agency to receive a grade of “A” seven years in a row.

Small businesses play a critical role in supporting virtually every segment of our homeland security community. In fact, in the last fiscal year, 9,500 small businesses held DHS contracts. The Department’s small business program continues to make significant contracting accomplishments that help keep our nation safe at the best value to American taxpayers.

I commend the hard work and dedication of the men and women across DHS who work to include small businesses in our acquisitions whenever possible. I look forward to continued success in this area and remain committed to partnering with small businesses to fulfill our vital DHS mission.
