The Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) developed a Technology Clearinghouse to provide homeland security stakeholders a central location to search, discover and access the final results of the latest research, development, testing, and evaluation (RDT&E) activities related to innovative technology solutions. As a resource for sharing and discovering information, the Technology Clearinghouse fills a critical role: making knowledge products and resources readily available to appropriate audiences so that homeland security decision makers can make the most informed decisions throughout the entire R&D and acquisitions lifecycle.
The Technology Clearinghouse is congressionally authorized in the Homeland Security Act of 2002 as a resource “to encourage and support innovative solutions to enhance homeland security.” Currently, the Technology Clearinghouse offers public, open-source content, as well as access-restricted information (e.g., For Official Use Only (FOUO) content). The Clearinghouse does not contain any classified information.
The Technology Clearinghouse:
- Helps identify and close technology gaps through collaborative R&D efforts.
- Provides a single platform for searching, discovering, and accessing results of RDT&E activities—enabling deployment of innovative solutions.
- Offers decision makers the potential to save money, resources, time, and even lives through better-informed procurement decisions.
- Enables effective policy making and management of the full technology lifecycle.
RDT&E activities are most useful when key stakeholders can access the resulting knowledge and apply it to their decision making and mission activities. Enhancements to the Technology Clearinghouse are underway to make it even easier to share content with more stakeholders. Building integrations with other databases is ongoing with the goal of allowing Clearinghouse users to search thousands of resources from multiple databases with a single query. Members of the state and local homeland security community, as well as representatives from industry and academia will be able to access content in the Clearinghouse. Information will continue to be shared with the appropriate audiences and data owners will always control which audience(s) can view their resources.
