Countering Violent Extremism

Under this program, the Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) conducts evidence-based research to improve the effectiveness of public safety and violence prevention efforts implemented by government agencies and NGOs. This research will enable policy- makers and operational end-users to make informed decisions to divert vulnerable individuals, prevent potential offenders, mitigate vulnerabilities, and enhance community resilience in the face of various social and behavioral threats.

Centers of Excellence 

  • The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education (NCITE) Center of Excellence, led by the University of Nebraska at Omaha, will focus on developing solutions to terrorism prevention and counterterrorism research to safeguard the nation’s people, infrastructure, and economy, including solutions that can help prevent terror attacks by countering the radicalization of people and their mobilization to violence.
