Facebook Tech Talk: Securing Surface Transportation

Securing surface transportation is a critically important undertaking. Every year more than 10 billion trips are taken on 6,800 U.S. mass transit systems. Surface transportation operators need a way to safely detect potential threat items on people and in their bags while maintaining their individual privacy, and they have to be able to do this without physically searching them or slowing them down as they move through the transit system.

That’s where we come in: the Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate has a program to address this challenging problem and help to mitigate the explosive threat to surface transportation.

The Surface Transportation Explosive Threat Detection Program is working with the TSA and surface transportation authorities across the country to develop screening technologies which will enhance security in a wide variety of soft target venues and crowded places. Please join us for a Facebook Live Tech Talk on February 22 at 1 p.m. EST to learn more about what S&T is doing to secure surface transportation.
