AEL Category: 01. Personal Protective Equipment

AEL Title: SCBA, CBRN

AEL Number: 01AR-01-SCBA

SAVER Project: CBRN SCBA

Chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) self-contained breathing apparatuses (SCBAs) are an atmosphere-supplying respirator that uses a breathing air source designed to be carried by the user. They are primarily intended for HAZMAT and fire service use where the environment is oxygen deficient and other worst case circumstances where the environment creates an immediate threat, is unidentified, is of unknown concentration, or is determined to be immediately dangerous to life and health (IDLH).

The Focus Group Report, Market Survey Report, and Assessment Report on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus are limited distribution documents, and are available in the SAVER Community on First Responder Community of Practice (FRCoP).

Find this project in the FEMA Authorized Equipment List and InterAgency Board Interactive Standardized Equipment List.
