DHS S&T at AI World Government 2021

Don’t miss S&T @ AI World Government, Oct. 18, at 3:10 p.m. EST. S&T’s David Alexander will join a virtual panel on Innovation Equity & AI: Technology’s Role in Inclusiveness, Resilience & Equality in the Post-COVID Era. This discussion will address how S&T is investing in community-driven research and technology development to enhance resilience and help the country Build Back Better. Faced with disruptions brought on by COVID and the climate crisis, communities nationwide can shut down overnight. Many of the shocks, stressors, and drivers of resilience are inextricably connected across our society, impacting our security, health and economic well-being.

At S&T, we want our research investments to work for all communities, to ensure they are equitable, and achieving measurable results – leaving no community behind. These issues and outcomes are big, complex, inter-related, and rely on large volumes of data and demands for technologies to keep pace with emerging threats, improve decision-making, optimize and speed things up, and prepare our future workforce. This is where AI comes into play. S&T is mobilizing AI capabilities to build capabilities in machine-to-machine learning, next generation sensors and the increase of autonomy. Some potential areas of opportunity include smarter alerts and warnings to save lives and reduce disruption, smarter planning to mitigate disaster losses and damages, and hardening solutions to strengthen our infrastructure, including advanced modeling for architecture, design, and standards compliance that will allow the country to Build Back Better and smarter. Join our discussion and help S&T shape and secure the future now.
