First Responder / Disaster Resilience

The Science and Technology Directorate’s (S&T’s) First Responder/Disaster Resilience R&D work includes:  reducing the vulnerability of critical infrastructure to terrorist attacks and other hazards; working with state, local, tribal, and territorial agencies (SLTT) governments to secure their information systems; working with local and regional partners to identify hazards, assess vulnerabilities, and develop strategies to manage risks associated with them; Increasing the level of preparedness of SLTT partners, as well as non-governmental organizations (NGOs), the private sector, and the general public; advancing and improving disaster emergency and interoperable communications capabilities; and improving capabilities of DHS and its Components to lead emergency management.
