The Science and Technology Directorate’s (S&T’s) Explosives Threat Assessment program identifies types and quantities of explosives that could critically damage an aircraft, provides detection and mitigation strategies, characterizes emerging homemade explosive threats, and informs requirements for detection systems for aviation security. Working closely with government, industry, and international partners, the program allows DHS Transportation Security Administration to field more effective transportation security equipment, improve training, and monitor and address emerging threats.
