Robotic Modular Stereoscopic Retrofit System Operational Field Assessment Report

Body

Bomb robots are used to inspect and manipulate suspect packages or explosives and are controlled by operators from a safe standoff distance. The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) is working with Honeybee Robotics to develop the Robotic Modular Stereoscopic Retrofit (MSR) System. This technology aims to improve an operator’s perception of the robot’s environment by providing a real-time, high-resolution, three-dimensional image without the need for headsets or special glasses. S&T's National Urban Security Technology Laboratory conducted an assessment with experienced bomb technicians to test the prototype in operational scenarios, and collected feedback that will inform enhancements.
